EDIWalker is a standalone Windows GUI tool designed to monitor and relocate files based on their content. The program actively monitors folder locations, as specified by the user, for files that contain user defined strings, and when found, moves the files to another user defined folder location. The search criteria is based on the contents of the file, not the name of the file, so if the file "test1.txt" for example contained the string 'h39848' within the file, and this was the search criteria entered into EDIWalker, then this file would be moved from the original folder location to the user defined folder location. EDIWalker can monitor files at a specified interval and the program can be minimised to the system tray for transparent operation. Multiple search definitions can be stored in the program and a facility to email file relocation notifications via an SMTP server is also included.     

This utility was written for the purpose of automating incoming file redirection. In commercial situations where files are copied to a central repository via FTP for example, EDIWalker can monitor this central location and move the files to various user defined folder locations based on the content of the files. This allows files to be categorised and stored based on content and is ideal for a commercial environment where orders, as another example, from multiple external customers are transferred via FTP. Each file would contain a unique string sequence within its structure that identifies the external customer, therefore with the use of EDIWalker, any orders that arrive from a specific customer can be automatically moved to a dedicated folder for that customer.

The GUI includes the ability to add new definitions, delete definitions, set the monitoring interval, set case sensitive search criteria and configure SMTP mail alerts.
